There is an apple press, and a crusher, available for hire in Frome from the Sustainable Frome Apple Group. Although the press doesn’t belong to Sustainable Frome – it actually belongs to Somerset Community Food – we are storing it and managing the hire.
If you want to borrow it, we ask that you find out how to use it first. Usually, this means coming along to Apple Day to see the press, or doing some pressing with someone else who has used it before.
It costs £10 per hire period, which is usually Mon-Fri or Sat-Sun. This money will go towards repairs (or a replacement), when necessary.

Pity I didn’t find you in time this season! Have three prolific apple trees in my garden in Wincanton and have given all the apples to a local farmer to feed to pigs. When is “Apple Day”. I would like to be on your mailing list with a view to pressing apples next time. Many thanks.

This year we plan to organise a communal pressing day (when you can book slots to use the press, and we’ll show you how it works), probably towards the end of September or mid-October and we’ll be having another Apple Day event, probably on 7th October (date and venue still to be confirmed).
